The history of The Herrera Law Firm
Founded in 1983 by one of our country’s most influential and respected lawyers, The Herrera Law Firm is grounded by the principals and upbringing of our founder, Frank Herrera, Jr.
Frank’s parents believed that one person could change the world for the better. This belief guides The Herrera Law Firm team and has allowed us to successfully represent thousands of individuals and families who have been dealt catastrophic blows.
As knowledgeable professionals in personal injury and wrongful death, civil trial law, and labor & employment law, The Herrera Law Firm fights to rectify the wrongs committed against our clients. Our firm has helped our clients to regain their dignity, to rebuild their lives, and to reclaim financial stability. We fight the good fight and believe everyone deserves his or her day in court.
Since our beginning as a small, one attorney firm, The Herrera Law Firm has grown to include many experienced legal professionals and a dedicated support team. Over the years, we have added several talented attorneys including Laura G. Tamez, Javier L. Herrera, and Jorge A. Herrera. Their experience, combined with Frank’s guidance and vision, assures that The Herrera Law Firm will continue its promise to champion the rights of the underdog.
Every client is a reminder that the law is an advocate for equality. Every case is a situation for an injustice to be corrected. Every day is an opportunity to exemplify the words of our leader, Frank Herrera, that “Winning isn’t luck. It’s knowing how to fight.”
A Texas Trial Lawyer who fights for justice
Known for his commitment for fighting for justice for the underdog, Frank Herrera’s famous line “Winning isn’t luck. It’s knowing how to fight” illustrates the dedication that has driven him to succeed.
It was the encouragement of Frank’s parents, Frank Sr. and Elvira, which drove Frank to become a lawyer and shape his future as well as the lives of others. Born and raised in Edna, Texas, Frank’s interest in law began while observing court proceedings with his father. He found a hero in civil-rights lawyer Gus Garcia, the first Mexican-American to argue a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Frank was accepted at St. Mary’s University on a scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and English in 1964. He then began his legal education at the university’s law school, a rigorous program that he completed in only two-and-a-half years.
The beginnings of The Herrera Law Firm, Inc.
Admitted to the bar in 1967, Mr. Herrera served as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board. Two years later, he joined a labor law attorney with the Law Office of Arthur Gotchman. In 1969, Mr. Herrera opened his own law firm with the help of his parents, who refinanced their home to purchase Frank’s office furniture and equipment. Eventually, he formed Hardberger & Herrera, an endeavor with Phillip Hardberger, former Chief Justice of the Texas Fourth Court of Appeals and former Mayor of San Antonio. In 1983, Frank Herrera became the sole owner of The Herrera Law Firm, Inc. (known then as The Law Offices of Frank Herrera, Jr.), a culmination of Frank’s lifelong commitment to hard work and justice.
Frank Herrera also dedicates countless hours of his time, financial resources, and legal expertise to causes he believes strongly in, including the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), The New American Alliance, and the St. Mary’s University Alumni Association and Central Catholic High School. Frank Herrera actively chairs numerous charitable events and sits as a member for many charitable organizations that benefit his local community.
In 2013, Frank Herrera was elected to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors for the New American Alliance, Inc., an organization dedicated to advancing the American Latino community.
Frank runs his law firm in much the same way he runs his life — with the hope that every move he makes will positively impact others. Frank is seen as a leader in the courtroom and is sought out by attorneys across the country for his expertise in the areas of personal injury, products liability, insurance fraud, construction accidents, and labor and employment law. He’s also considered an innovator in utilizing courtroom technology in trials.
A caring and compassionate Texas accident lawyer
Javier Herrera is the youngest son of Frank Herrera Jr., founder of the firm, and brother to Jorge Herrera, an associate lawyer in the firm.
In 2000, Javier graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Later, he went on to the University of Chicago-School of Social Services Administration, where in 2007 and received his Master of Arts focusing on Community Planning, Organizing, and Development. The lessons learned while he received his masters, furthered his desire to promote equality and justice for those who need a voice.
